Today is our Independence Day. Merdeka!.

  1. Indeed! I learnt Bahasa Indonesia throughout my high school years, and as part of that I went on a trip there in 1995 for a month; we even visited the palace for the 50th year celebrations. Every 17th of August I always think back to those times and look forward to the next chance I have to visit.

    Merdeka!

    Happy independence!
Controlling your own destiny as a people is invaluable. I'm glad the the colonial past is moving further and further back in history.

  3. Interesting. Dirgahayu means in Sanskrit/Hindi "long life" . Deergh == long . Ayu == age. Is that what you meant too?

  4. @Blue Lightning: Merdeka!

@Anonymous: Indeed, it is a term absorbed from Sanskrit.
